Revitalizing a digital presence to support an inspiring mission
Mid-America Transplant is one of just 53 organ procurement organizations (OPOs) in the nation, entrusted with the profound mission of saving lives through organ and tissue donation. At the heart of this work is a dual commitment: facilitating the medical miracle of transplantation while providing compassionate support to donor families navigating heartbreaking grief and loss.
Previously, the organization’s digital presence was a decade-old legacy website that had grown organically over time without a clear strategic vision. This resulted in a site that was difficult for staff to update and a frustrating maze of information for users. For grieving families seeking resources or potential recipients looking for stories of hope, the outdated platform had become a barrier rather than a beacon of support.
To address these challenges, the organization set out to completely reimagine its digital front door. The primary goal was to create a modern, engaging, and intuitive online hub that could serve its diverse audiences with clarity and communicate compassion. This required a ground-up redesign and development effort, focused on a streamlined site map, a powerful user experience (UX) and a content strategy that could beautifully showcase hundreds of donor and recipient stories.
The result is a unified and emotionally resonant digital platform that fully supports the organization’s critical work. Overcoming digital obstacles
Over its 10-year history, the organization’s website had grown haphazardly, making it difficult for visitors — donor family members, recipients, potential donors, financial supporters, and future employees — to find the information they sought. Additional barriers prevented the staff from updating the site to keep the information current.

Focusing on the diverse users and their needs, we reimagined the OPO’s online presence. Our approach included simplifying and reorganizing the content, creating a visually engaging interface, and highlighting the impact and stories that give a face to the organization’s inspiring work.
